ACs or Air conditioners are fast becoming a necessity rather than a luxury, are almost essential not just in offices, but even in average urban homes. The hotter the day, the more the use of ACs. The AC, unfortunately consumes maximum power of all household equipment. It therefore follows that day time use of ACs on hot days rises considerably, spiking a demand on the grid that supplies power. With easing demand and high usage, additional charges are levied, resulting in bigger and bigger bills. And yet, we need the AC today, especially to combat the intense heat.
It is this vicious cycle that solar ACs can overcome, by turning the problem into a solution. Using solar energy, a solar AC unit uses thermal energy, like the solar water heater, to create water pressure, performing the role of the standard compressor. The compressor as we know, consumes maximum power usually, and so this solar AC unit’s mechanism saves on power bills during the day, relying on grid power only at night or cloudy days when the solar-compressor unit is non functional.
